Course Descriptions
Level
1 - Essential Self-Protection - White and Yellow Belts
"Learning Strength
and Stability Amidst All of Life's Challenges"
This
course is designed to provide you with an effective set of physical,
intellectual, and emotional self-defense skills. Our goal is to
empower you with simple, usable techniques from day one.
The training includes defenses
against high-probability attacks; you will learn a few simple
defenses against things such as: being punched in the head or
body, being choked, being shoved, low-line kicks to your legs,
and being grabbed and held in place or moved to another location
or vehicle. You will also learn what to do about short range attacks
with blunt objects, and how to use short-length sticks in self-protection.
As a training member you will
typically spend at least six months in Level 1 until you are comfortable
with and fully "own" the material.
Level
2 - Advanced Self-Protection - Blue and Red Belts
"The Science of Overcoming Danger"
"The Art of Proper Timing"
Build on your momentum of accomplishment from what you
learned in Level 1. Our level 2 coursework is based around gaining
personal confidence, the ability to recognize potential danger,
and the capability to make the right choices under pressure.
The training includes defenses
against high-probability attacks; you will learn defenses against
things like being put in a headlock, being kicked and punched
multiple times, being attacked by a larger, stronger adversary,
what to do about knives, and how to use knives and medium-length
sticks in self-protection.
You will learn about how to
get out of the way of overpowering attacks and defeat an attacker
through angling and leverage, and the courage it takes to find
the safety of moving towards danger at just the precise moment
necessary to protect yourself or others.
Level 3 - Protector Martial
Arts - Green and Brown Belts
"The Ability
to Capture and Utilize Negative Physical and Emotional Energy"
"The Wisdom of Choosing The Most Appropriate Course of Action"
At
this point your training has evolved into a path of personal exploration
and realizing your full potential as a human being and as a martial
artist. Owning this material thoroughly prepares you with the
skill and confidence necessary for earning a Black Belt in Rib
Mountain Martial Arts.
Your tool training will focus
on working with and against flexible weapons and defenses against
firearms at close range. The physical training also includes defenses
against high-probability unarmed attacks and the refinement of
all previously learned techniques.
Level 4 - Black Belt Mastery
"Every moment
is an opportunity
to take another step towards realizing your potential"
As a Black Belt training member
you will strive to master those fundamental techniques that are
the basis of true skill; you will also work to develop a spirit
of winning in the face of all of life's challenges.
Some
of the advanced skills you develop include using less effort to
generate more speed and power, how to respond with grace and intelligence
when confronted with brutality and ignorance, how to deal with
multiple attackers, using and defending against various weapons,
fighting from inside or near a vehicle, environmental self-protection,
ground fighting, survival in various environments, defeating attackers
skilled in street fighting or other martial arts, and how to protect
others.
At
all levels, some training is done in classical unarmed and weapons
training from our Japanese and Filipino combat lineages is also
available; which includes outdated weapons technology that can
be used to understand timeless principles of combat. Topics include
the Japanese sword, the chain, the short club, blades, the three,
four, and six foot staff, improvised weapons, and much more. At
Level 4 Black Belt, students can choose to specialize in a particular
lineage of classical unarmed or weapons training. They can also
choose to specialize in a particular interest such as catch wrestling
/ submission wrestling or more advanced striking training.
Nate (bottom) is throwing
an aggressor using a technique
covered in our black belt curriculum.
... and traps the aggressor
with an arm bar upon landing.
The limb can then damaged, allowing Nate to safely escape.
